President Nicolae Timofti today had a meeting with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius.
The head of state appreciated the support provided by the Vilnius authorities, especially Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite, for Moldova's European integration.
President Nicolae Timofti said the example of the Baltic States, which had managed to ensure high living standards of the residents after the accession to EU, was a model to be followed by Moldova.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius conveyed a message of solidarity with the people of Moldova in its European integration.
Linas Linkevicius said the Vilnius authorities wanted to provide Moldova with the needed logistic assistance, to facilitate the implementation of the EU standards.
The Lithuanian official said the people of Moldova must follow with confidence the European integration way, as the example of Lithuania proved that this was the best solution to ensure well-being, democracy and security.
"Lithuania and Moldova had the same starting point in 1991 as former Soviet republics. After Lithuania had signed the Association and Free Trade Agreement with EU in 1994, the country's Gross Domestic Product grew ten-fold," Linas Linkevicius said.
Linkevicius voiced confidence that, at the 30 November polls, the Moldovans would cast their ballots for the political forces declaring for the country's European development.
Nicolae Timofti and Linas Linkevicius also discussed issues of boosting the bilateral bilateral cooperation and the complicated situation in the region.
