Presidency of the Republic of Moldova (short history)
For the purpose of strengthening the constitutional order and sovereignty of the SSR Moldova, rights, freedoms and security of citizens, improving the interaction of central state bodies, the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR, by Law No.250-XII from September 3, 1990, established the office of President of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic.
Biography of President of the Republic of Moldova Mircea Snegur, 1990-1996
Mr. Mircea Snegur was born on 17 January 1940, in the village of Trifanesti, Soroca district. In 1956 he has graduated the High School of the village of Frumusica, Floresti district. Mr. Snegur has graduated from the Agricultural Institute of Chisinau in 1961. He accomplished post-graduate studies at the Department of Animal Husbandry of the same Institute (1972). His speciality is agronomist-scientist and has the scientific title of Doctor in agricultural sciences.
Biography of President of the Republic of Moldova Petru Lucinschi, 1996-2001
Mr. Petru Lucinschi was born on January 27, 1940 in the village of Radulenii Vechi, Floresti district. He graduated from the State University of Moldova in 1962. He is a member of the Academy of Social Sciences of the Russian Federation (Moscow), Ph. D. in Philosophy (1977).
Biography of President of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, 2001-2009
Mr. Vladimir Voronin was born on May 25, 1941 in the village of Corjova, Dubasari district. He graduated the Cooperative College from Chisinau in 1961 and the Union Institute for Food Industry - in 1971, then the Academy of Social Sciences under the CC of the CPSU in 1983 and the Academy of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the USSR in 1991. His specialty is engineer-economist, political expert and lawyer.
Biography of Acting President of the Republic of Moldova Mihai Ghimpu, 2009-2010
Mr. Mihai Ghimpu was born on November 19, 1951 in village of Colonita, municipality of Chisinau. Mihai Ghimpu graduated from Secondary School no. 1 of Chisinau (now the Romanian-French lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi”), then the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova. He started working in 1978. Until 1990, Mr. Ghimpu worked as a lawyer, head of the legal department at various state enterprises in Chisinau.
Biography of Acting President of the Republic of Moldova Marian Lupu, 2010-2012
Mr. Marian Lupu was born on June 20, 1966 in municipality of Balti. He graduated in 1983 from Secondary School No. 1 from Chisinau (currently “Gheorghe Asachi” High School). The same year he enrolled at the Faculty if Economics and Commerce of the State University of Moldova, which he graduated in 1987.
Biography of President of the Republic of Moldova Nicolae Timofti, 2012-2016
Nicolae Timofti was born on December 22, 1948 in the village of Ciutulesti, Soroca district. He has graduated in 1964 from the school of Floresti. During 1964 - 1967 Nicolae Timofti attended evening school in Floresti. During 1967-1972 he studied at the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova.
