President Maia Sandu met today with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, who is on a working visit to Chisinau. The discussion focused on the security risks caused by Russia's war in Ukraine, in particular the impact it has on the energy and economic sectors of our country. Moldova’s European agenda was also discussed.
The Head of State thanked Lithuania for its support in the process of obtaining the status of EU candidate country. The President stressed that despite the energy crisis and the security risks brought by the war, the authorities are working on EU recommendations and are carrying out reforms in priority areas, such as justice. The Head of State said that she was counting on Lithuania's continued support in our European journey and such topics like the liberalisation of roaming tariffs with the EU or accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).
The officials also discussed bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Lithuania, including in the fight against propaganda and disinformation, which have gained momentum with Russia's aggression in Ukraine and threaten the security of our countries.
