Moldovan president meets U.S. General

President Nicolae Timofti today met U.S. Supreme Allied Commander in Europe Philip M. Breedlove, on a two-day visit to Moldova.

Timofti welcomed the visit of the American official and praised the continuous support USA and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is offering Moldova to consolidate its defense capacity.

The president also spoke about the need to boost up and enhance cooperation between Moldova, USA and NATO in various fields, touching upon a possible inauguration of a NATO office in Chisinau to this effect.

“Your visit to Moldova amid a moment of maximum pressure on the European continent shows NATO’s attachment and support for the implementation of defense and security reforms. We praise the contribution NATO and USA make to helpPROMOTE peace in Europe and throughout the world,” Timofti said.

The officials tackled the current state of the regional and global security level, in light of the latest terrorist attacks.

In this context, Breedlove welcomed Timofti’s decision to decree the day of 24 March as national mourning day. “American soldiers have also been targeted in the latest terrorist attacks,” Breedlove noted.

Attending the meeting was also U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James Pettit.
