President Nicolae Timofti today had a meeting with Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, Most Right Reverend Vladimir.
The head of state stressed the role of the Church in maintaining a climate of peace and understanding in the society, which is important for Moldova spiritual and material development.
President Timofti said there was presently a fair and efficient cooperation between the Church and the state, from which benefits for all citizens are coming.
At the same time, Nicolae Timofti referred to attempts by certain high prelates to use political messages in their public speeches. In this context, he emphasized the importance that these prelates observe Moldova’s laws and the people’s will.
For his part, Most Right Reverend Vladimir gave assurances that the activity of the clergy would further take place in the spirit of the Christian morals of conciliation and harmony. At the same time, Metropolitan Vladimir stressed that the Church would discourage attempts by its representatives to sow dissensions among people through appeals with political hidden motives.
Nicolae Timofti and Metropolitan Vladimir also discussed a string of social and education projects, and agreed on the need of holding consultations on topics of common interest for the religious and lay communities in the long run.
