The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met today with Deputy Director General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kenji Okamura, who is on a working visit to Chisinau. They discussed about the main challenges Republic of Moldova's economy is facing in the uncertain regional context, about the energy crisis and the rising prices.
The Head of State appreciated the support that our country has received from the IMF over the years and the recent decision to increase the financial package for the Republic of Moldova as a response to the new realities generated by the war in Ukraine. President Maia Sandu noted that the authorities are currently focusing their efforts on supporting vulnerable groups of the population affected by rising prices and on improving business conditions. In this regard, cooperation with the IMF in the tax area and a reform of the sector is important in order to make the business environment in our country more attractive.
Mr. Kenji Okamura underlined the International Monetary Fund's openness to continue supporting the Republic of Moldova during the process of transforming the country, carrying out economic reforms and strengthening public institutions.
