Moldovan-Lithuanian bilateral relations were discussed by the Head of State with the Speaker of Parliament and Prime Minister of Lithuania

The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met this afternoon in Vilnius with Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, President of the Lithuanian Seimas, and Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė. They discussed the political, economic and security challenges our countries face because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the consequences of the war, and the Moldovan-Lithuanian bilateral relations.

At the meeting with Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, the Head of State reiterated Moldova's commitment to advance on the path of reforms and the importance of cooperation on the parliamentary dimension between our countries. President Maia Sandu said that Lithuania's legislative experience could be helpful for us, especially now, as the Republic of Moldova is a EU candidate country and has to make progress in adjusting the national legislation to the European legal framework.

President Maia Sandu thanked Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė for the constant support offered by Lithuania for development projects, strengthening of democracy and independent mass-media, the fight against disinformation, and also for ensuring Moldova's energy and economic resilience. The officials expressed their determination to continue to provide the necessary assistance to the refugees fleeing the war and to Ukraine, and agreed to expand Moldovan-Lithuanian trade and economic cooperation.
