President Nicolae Timofti welcomes the European Parliament’s today decision to lift up the mandatory visas for Moldovans, who pay short-term visits to the Schengen area.
„This decision, approved by an overwhelming majority of the MEPs, represents an appreciation of the efforts that have been taken by the Moldovan authorities over the past years, in order to adjust the legal framework and implement other necessary measures,” Timofi said.
„At the same time, this decision is a confidence vote from the part of the political groups at the European Parliament for all Moldovan citizens, to encourage Moldova’s European path,” Timofti said. „We are on the way to obtain a fundamental right for our citizens, that to freely travel in the European space. I congratulate all my countrymen on this occasion and urge them to be confident about our chance to become a fully-fledged European state,” Timofti said.
After the European Parliament’s vote, the decision will be approved by the Council of the European Union soon and is to enter into force next summer.
